Message of Condolence on the Anniversary of the Passing of Ustad Burhanuddin Rabbani
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Dear compatriots, brothers, and sisters!
The Martyred Professor, Burhanuddin Rabbani, is one of the rare figures in the contemporary history of Afghanistan whose name will remain eternal in our nation's annals. The Martyred Ustad was a man of the battlefield of Jihad, a teacher in the realm of knowledge, a seasoned personality in the political arena, and a martyr for the path of peace in Afghanistan. These characteristics are what made that wise professor unique and peerless.
Throughout his years of struggle—from the pre-war era to his leadership of the country—the Martyred Ustad Rabbani was the embodiment of measured behavior, calculated speech, and moderate stances. This was because two vital traits, knowledge (Ilm) and forbearance (Hilm), were united in his personality.
The broad vision and magnanimity of the Martyred Ustad allowed various ethnicities and strata of our people, from the north to the south and from the east to the west, to connect with him and hold him in high esteem. He occupied a place in the hearts of millions of Afghan citizens.
One never saw or heard provocative stances or tension-filled remarks from the Martyred Ustad, for he believed in the unity and harmony of the people of Afghanistan and considered striving toward that goal his duty. He spared no effort to end the war and pave the way for the development and progress of the country. His steadfast commitment to peace and tranquility was such that he sacrificed his own life in this pursuit—the highest degree of sacrifice a leader can offer for a nation.
While honoring the status of that great Professor, we consider ourselves committed to following his path and pursuing his noble ideals; especially in restoring peace and stability to our suffering country, we shall spare no effort.
Our loyalty to the ideals of the Martyred Ustad and all the dear martyrs of the country demands that we place the unity and harmony of our people above all else. We must block the hands of conspiracy and division and turn the ranks of our nation into a "Solid Structure" (Bunyan-un Marsous) that remains unharmed by any wind or rain.
May Almighty Allah keep the soul of Martyred Ustad Rabbani joyful in His eternal mercy and grant us the success to realize the ideals of the martyrs of Afghanistan.
